Quarantined Deck Rebuild

When COVID hit, like so many others, we got a dog, got married, got pregnant, and took on numerous house projects. Unlike so many others, we happen to know Brent McMahan, a fantastic friend who is both one of the most creative people you may come across as well as the most handy, do-it-yourself, inspiring person you will meet. He inspired me to take a trailer full of material and some tools off road in the Big Bend desert, hours from the closest gas station, to build my first construction project, a 10x10 lofted shed - but that is a story for another time.

With no one to entertain during COVID, what better time to rip up my old crappy deck and put in a brand new shinny custom designed deck. Custom designed by Brent. The two us took the old one down and organically put together a multi-tiered and zoned deck suitable for our dreams of a post-quarantine world.

We wired it full of power plugs and lights, ran plumbing through it with water spigots conveniently located on both sides, put two pergolas on it, and got it ready for an outdoor kitchen (more on that to come). My wife then took to decorating and brought on all the beautiful finishing touches. For my second construction project ever, I am pretty proud of this thing and can’t wait to put it to good use.
